Portree is the ideal base for exploring the Isle of Skye as it is centrally situated with roads to all corners of the island. In addition there are many attractions in Portree itself, and the village has all facilities including Banks, Shops, Restaurants and Hotels.
One of the major attractions in Portree is the Aros Heritage Centre, which has an exhibition of island life, culture and history. The Centre also has an excellent restaurant, cinema and gift shop. It is just t a five minute drive from our house.
There are boat trips from Portree Harbour from which the scenic splendour of the island can be appreciated and a variety of wildlife can be seen.
The most dramatic scenery in Skye is a short distance away in the Trotternish Hills, whose most famous feature, the Old Man of Storr, is well worth a visit. Continuing the journey north one can see the Lealt Waterfall, the Kilt Rock, the Quiraing, Duntulm Castle, the Skye Museum of Island Life and the Flora MacDonald Monument, before completing the circular route back to Portree via Uig.
